You’ll find the spirit of Christmas in the hills of Brown County during the month of December. The leaves may be gone but their absence reveals the county’s beautiful glacier-carved ridges and hilltops. When the snow falls there is no prettier place.

Brown County’s beauty is reason enough to visit anytime, but the traditional holiday Christmas in Brown County is an event for the ages—and all ages, from kids to coots.

Imagine the village of Nashville decorated with white lights, sprigs of evergreen, strolling carolers in Victorian costumes—sing along, they won’t mind—and you’ll feel the season come alive for you and your family.

Santa intends to spend a lot of his time in Brown County this season starting with the Artists Colony Inn Porch each weekend afternoon throughout the season.

On December 2 at 8:30 p.m. Santa arrives in Helmsburg on the Santa Train. Everyone always has a great time singing carols and playing with Rudolph and Frosty while waiting to see Santa.

Breakfast with Santa is on the menu December 11 from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Brown County Inn. Eat a hearty country breakfast while the kids visit with St. Nick. There will be door prizes.

And don’t forget the Children’s Benefit Auction at The Ordinary at 6:30 p.m. on December 2.

Over 80 Christmas and winter related songs are featured in Pine Box Theatre’s Old Fashioned Christmas. This is the 16th season The Good Time Girls and Guys have performed this popular holiday show, a favorite for all ages. The costumes are delightful, the Gals dance up a storm, and everyone has a good time. The audience also gets in the act singing Christmas carols. Show dates are December 2–4, 7 (2:00), 9–11, 16–18. Weekday shows are at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays are at 3:00 p.m.

Winter Wonderland (The Christmas Show) at the Nashville Follies Musical Theatre features contemporary and traditional holiday favorites filled with fun, joy, and inspiration. Show dates are December 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17. Friday shows are at 8:00 p.m. and Saturday shows are at 5:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

The Brown County Live Entertainment theatre group will also be performing their show A Brown County Christmas at the Nashville Follies Theatre on December 4, 8, 14, and 15. Weekday shows are at 7:00 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m.

Get in the spirit with Joybells to the World at the Joybell Theater. Kristine Stout will perform a special 60 minute holiday program December 8 (10:30, 1:00, 3:00, 5:00), December 9 (3:00), and December 20 (1:00 and 3:00). Watch Kristine as she gracefully handles three octaves of English handbells (37 bells) ALL BY HERSELF! Reservations are appreciated.

On Saturday evening, December 10 at 7:00 p.m. Nashville Dance Studio will present a production of The Nutcracker at the Brown County High School Auditorium. The rendition of the timeless tale will include a unique blend of classical ballet with jazz and tap dancing from pre-school age dancers to adults.

Also on December 10 starting at 7:00 p.m. a special Christmas event will be held at the Figtree Galley and Coffeeshop in Helmsburg. It’s the beautiful brick building by the railroad tracks. Barry Johnson will sing Christmas carols and other familiar tunes and the FigTree Fellowship Players will present: The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.

On December 16 and 17 there’s a Madrigal Dinner planned at the Presbyterian Fellowship Church. It features both secular and religious music of the 15th and 16th century. Enjoy the Christmas Show at the Brown County Art Gallery and Museum located at East Main and Artists Drive in Nashville. Paintings make great gifts.

Waldron Gallery in downtown Nashville is featuring a holiday collection of works during the season.

On December 3 and 4 turn right at Stone Head on SR 135 to visit the Spears Gallery Holiday Open House featuring Larry Spears pottery and Kyle Spears photography. Refreshments will be served.
