Abe Martin's County Picnic

The second annual “Abe Martin’s County Picnic” will take place at Nashville’s Main Street on Saturday, September 9, 2006. Highlights include great food, the talents of local musicians, and the “NashCar” outhouse races.

The “We Care Gang” event organizers urge attendees to bring their own lawn chairs in order to sit and enjoy the music. The food provided by sponsors (includes six roasted pigs) is free but everyone will be asked to give a donation to help feed and shelter those in need in Brown County. Working through the Brown County Community Foundation, the “We Care Gang” raises and distributes funds for the communities’ neediest members.

Opening ceremonies are at 11:00 a.m., followed at 11:30 a.m. by music of “Hickory Wind.”

Mel Chance and “The Notables” are to play at 12:45 p.m. before lunch is served at noon.

“The Thunder Club” will play at 2:00 p.m., and the musical finale of the day will be provided by a local quartet billed as “Moody, Klug, Bowden, and Gore.”

At the Gazebo throughout the day, sponsors plan music by Myra Deworski and old-fashioned story-telling by Pete Sebert.

Main Street beside the Gazebo at Jefferson Street will close to traffic for the 3:00 p.m. outhouse races. Starter for racing among the specially constructed outhouse creations is the Indianapolis Pacer mascot, “Bowser.”
